'... the building was set afire by incendiary bullets [...] people could see the paper's twin towers in flames on the late evening news. No one expected a paper out of that flame. But we moved the newsroom to an atomic bomb shelter underneath the building. [...] Undeterred, the paper hit the streets early the next morning, causing joy [...]. With no regular newsprint supply, we reduced the press run and the size and number of pages, printing during the worst periods just 3500 copies in tabloid format. With telephone connections down, we installed radio equipment and communicated stories through a network of ham radio operators. With no electricity, we needed 100 liters of diesel fuel to type and print for just four hours a day, using candles the rest of the time. With no drivers or kiosks to distribute and sell the paper, journalists themselves volunteered to drive the paper through the sniper-covered streets and to sell it in their neighborhoods.'
